Resulting from a participative project carried out with the inhabitants of the city of Vitrolles between 2014 and 2017, “Le ventre de la terre” is a sound work that deals with the intimate.
It is an inner journey in which each participant is in a way the hero and which becomes a common adventure through a collective work on a city scale.
It is an invitation to a dreamlike drift, from the depths of which reality will emerge, with all its strength, without falseness.

The composition is built around the voice, or rather should we say the multiple voices that have been chosen, to structure it. Apart from the personal narratives which are intact, some of the texts that served as a working support remain clearly recognisable, while others are no longer so: distorted with the voices that carried them, they disappear to participate in the musical construction, leaving their place empty.

The other sound materials in this work come directly from the music creation workshops and from the digital audio processing of the voices themselves. A final typology of sounds was composed using first-grade analogue synthesizers selected according to precise criteria of timbre.
In the end, it is a whole universe of sounds developed over three years in collaboration with the participants, which tends to « stand up, as if it were the whole world that stood up… ».

Initially, ‘Le ventre de la terre’ is a multiphonic sound piece, which has been revised for the stereo version presented here .
