About this album
This piece was composed as part of Lionel Kasparian’s collaboration with the choreographer Christophe Haleb on the project “Fama”, in the framework of Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture.
“Reminiscence” was composed for a choreographic performance produced in the framework of the urban ritual of Lieux Publics – “Sirène et midi net” – on the square in front of the Marseilles Opera House. This urban ritual and this composition are based on the test of the city’s sirens test, which has taken place here every month since 1948.
The performance took place during the opening of the Opera House concert season, with the presence of kakemonos on the building columns presenting the venue’s programme. Therefore, I wanted to integrate into the musical composition a more ‘rock’ counterpoint in the form of a mashup (a first attempt which will be developed in the sound ballad produced in 2013, ‘Walk my memories’).
The piece is therefore made up of various musical extracts, texts chosen by the choreographer Christophe Haleb and sounds recorded during the creation residencies at the “Ballet National de Marseille“.
Initially, “Reminiscence” is a multiphonic sound piece, which has been rewritten in 2019 for a musical listening and in stereo.
