‘Meditation I Drums’ is an album of retrospective listening rather than a work of composition. Consisting of instrumental improvisations made on drums in the 2000s, it is like a musical allegory of the passing of time and the personal analysis that one makes of it.
Long discredited, these recordings that used to lie on my hard drive without ever reaching the Recycle Bin, testify to the ambiguous relationship I had with this instrument which was nevertheless my favourite musical playground for more than a decade before leaving it for the computer and the modular synthesizer.
With hindsight, I can now better understand the approach I took at the time. It is this search for gestures and sounds in the context of rhythmic experimentation that I wish to share in this album through a selection of chosen moments.
